What brought this on?

You’d think that by now people would be different by now. It’s 2008 people, the dawn of a new century. When I grew up in the *cough* 70’s and 80’s *cough* you couldn’t be gay in high school, your friends wouldn’t make the effort to understand. Now, tolerance has made leaps and bounds of progress. Teens can be who they really are. Adults can be themselves with their coworkers. Life is much much less stressful, right? Well yes and no. There are an unfortunately large number of people who still keep the hate and close mindedness in their harts. That’s OK, people should be able to believe what they believe … unless they’re a public official. Take for example this story on a Tampa Bay, Florida news site.

Commissioner warns of homosexual “social and sexual agenda”

Obviously the Day of Silence is just plain evil! Yeah right. It’s not really the article itself that gets to me, ho hum another Florida bigot. Some of the comments though are really distressing. For example, here are a couple of excerpts:

 Good for him , why do these gay people think they are normal ? They should go back to the closet and stay .  - bayshore, Tampa Florida

 What does any of that have to do with pervs molesting children in schools?  - WWW WHEATON EDU

“perves molesting children”?  What are they teaching at Wheaton? Don’t they know that the “perves” are for the most part straight middle aged men? I guess not.

The Gay Agenda

For years I’ve heard of the “Gay Agenda”, unfortunately I’ve never been at the right place at the right time to get my copy to make sure that I’m furthering it. Hell, no one even gave out a toaster oven when I came out. However, Jon Stuart in his excellent reporting has managed to uncover the “Agenda” and brought it out into the light of day.

 

Elsewhere I found another version of the agenda which actually works with my schedule better than Jon’s:

6:00 am Gym
8:00 am Breakfast (oatmeal and egg whites)
9:00 am Hair appointment
10:00 am Shopping
12:00 PM Brunch

2:00 PM
1) Assume complete control of the U.S. Federal, State and Local Governments as well as all other national governments,
2) Recruit all straight youngsters to our debauched lifestyle,
3) Destroy all healthy heterosexual marriages,
4) Replace all school counselors in grades K-12 with agents of Colombian and Jamaican drug cartels,
5) Establish planetary chain of homo breeding gulags where over-medicated imprisoned straight women are turned into artificially impregnated baby factories to produce prepubescent love slaves for our devotedly pederastic gay leadership,
6) bulldoze all houses of worship, and
7) Secure total control of the INTERNET and all mass media for the exclusive use of child pornographers.

4:00 PM Cocktails
6:00 PM Light Dinner (soup, salad, with Chardonnay)
8:00 PM Theater
11:00 PM Bed (du jour)

That’s more like it! Hours I can work with.

All frivolity aside, it’s a stroke of genius that the Religious Right and their friends have come up with the “Gay Agenda” concept. It gives them and their brainwashed legions a single, monolithic target for their irrational hate. Without the “Gay Agenda”, they actually have to hate people which is supposed to be a no-no for most of them (discounting the ones with the robes made of bed sheets and hats made of pillowcases of course).

There are a few things that scare me about this:

• Mike Huckabee. My god, it terrified that someone with his religious leanings might have a chance to be president. I mostly don’t really care what religion a politician is as long as I think he or she can actually separate their job from their religion (sorta like the Constitution mentions somewhere). From what I read, Huckabee would not be that kind of person.

 

• The people who believe that the “Gay Agenda” is bad but don’t think that anyone would get hurt if they’re behaving. These are the same people who wouldn’t believe that kids in Mexico are being bashed just for being Emo. Those people scare me.

 

• Fred Phelps and his cult. They scare me. Phelps himself doesn’t, he’s old and won’t last too much longer (though the good ones die young and the bastards keep on going like that damned bunny so who knows…). It the others. I saw some special on one of the premium networks that showed his grown children and their children truly believing in the hate that spews with each breath that Fred takes. Little kids + irrational hate = God knows what but it can’t be good.
